Look for Less: Soccer Mom Chic

This morning I suggested an update to Jennifer Garner's out-and-about wear, taking it from drabby mother to fashionable yet comfortable. Now, I've put together a look for all you moms on-the-go using some more reasonably priced pieces.

Info

Tote: Target/Tignanello $80.99

Shoes: DSW/Me Too $54.95

Jeans: Old Navy/The Diva $34.50

Tunic: JC Penny's/Jones Wear $19.99

Total: $190.43

I chose a flattering tunic from JC Penny's because the black and white print will look good on many skin tones. The cut and trim make the neckline the focal point, hiding problem areas well. I paired this with flare jeans from Old Navy. The cut and simple wash make the jeans good for many outfits and occasions. I used grey flats from DSW for this look. The detail gives it some flare but it's still simple and classic and most of all comfortable. To finish the look, I added a pop of red with the purse from Target. A pop of color to an otherwise colorless outfit spices it up and ads a bit of personality to it. And this shade of red will go with many other outfits.

Celebrity Styling- Jennifer Garner

Often times, stars stay their most glamorous regardless of whether or not there is a red capet beneath their feet. But some transition from red carpet glam to more practical daywear. An example of this is yummy mummy Jennifer Garner. When walking on the red carpet, Mrs. Affleck is a vision and always looks like a million bucks. But when taking her kids places Jennifer tends to aim for the "soccer mom" look. I've put together an outfit for her that takes her daywear up a notch and is more flattering but doesn't look too overdone.

Info
Total: $1728.70
I chose the Rebecca Taylor tunic because it is light, comfortable, figure-flattering, and the pattern gives it a Parisian flare. I dressed this look down with Dolce & Gabbana straight leg jeans. Straight leg or flares are very flattering on many moms of many shapes. I chose the white Ferragamo flats to accent the white in the tunic. A Balenciaga tote ties the look together. I chose no jewelry as I thought that would overdo the look. Jen would look good with little make-up and her hair down or casually pulled back.

Look for Less: Summer Florals

Earlier, I suggested a floral dress for Lea Michele. but this look isn't just good for her. It's a great look for the summer season and on anyone. Below is an outfit I've put together that I think would look great for many occasions and for many people.

Info:

Dress: Younkers/Evan-Picone $59.99

Necklace: Kohl's/Dana Buchman $24

Shoes: Target/Mossimo $19.99

Purse: Target/Merona $19.99

Total: $123.97

The focal point of the dress is the chic and summery print. The simple silhouette can look good on many. The straps and neckline are flattering to all sorts of body types. It has personality and sophistication. The shoes are strappy and a little drama with the color black, and at about $20, they're a steal. The white purse will go with many summer looks, as will the necklace.

Comment and tell me what you think. And be sure to e-mail me your styling selections.

Celebrity Styling- Lea Michele

Glee star Lea Michele has recently been channeling a more dramatic Boho look. And while I think that's a great look for spring/summer, the choices she's been making have taken it over the top. This Etro dress is a prime example of it. The idea of a print on the red carpet is a great idea, but the dress swallows Lea, and the hair does nothing to help the look. Below, I've selected a look that's Boho but still summery and chic for Lea.

Info

Shoes: Net-a-Porter/Christian Louboutin $755

Dress: Farfetch/Erdem $308

Clutch: Bloomingdales/Tory Burch $295

Necklace: Net-a-Porter/Marc by Marc Jacobs $120

Total: $1478

I chose the Erdem dress because the print is referential to the parts of Boho that Lea seems to embrace, but the simple silhouette keeps it from being too much. The print works really well for summer. I chose the shoes and necklace because they are simple and don't take away from the dress. I liked the clutch because it gives the look a little pop without being too much. For this look to work, Lea should wear natural make-up and have her hair loosely pulled back.

Welcome!

Welcome to my new blog! My name is Laura aka Style Maven. The concept of my blog is simple: showcasing a variety of styles in a variety of ways.

Firstly, every day (or so I hope) I will post two style posts. The first one will include a look that I've chosen for a certain celeb. I will include links to all the pieces and cost info in case any of my readers want to see. The second post will be an affordable outfit I've put together that I like. I will include in my description links and pricing info for the look. No outfit will cost more than $250 total and no individual piece will be more than $100.

Next, I'd like you (the reader) to e-mail me your styling picks. You can pick pieces for celebs or you can pick pieces that you think would be great for my other readers. If you do celebs, you should include the name of celeb, the name of the designer of every piece, and a link to each piece. If you do pieces for everyone, you need to include the designers of each piece, a link to each piece, and the prices. You must abide by the same pricing rules as me. In your e-mail provide me with a little commentary on why the piece(s) would work for the celeb or for the general public.

To e-mail me, click the link to my profile on the side of this screen and select e-mail.

I may also talk about what the celebs are wearing on the red carpet, fashion shows, etc.

Welcome and keep reading!
